Motivation and application domain
The thesis is focused on children affected by a muscular disorder from different genetic etiologies, in the context of a collaboration with the Gaslini Hospital.

General objectives and main activities
These patients display a slowly progressive motor function defect with reduction of muscle bulk and strength, loss of ambulation and subsequent impairment of motor function of the upper girdle. At the present, there is no established quantitative method for clinical assessment of such impairments. The general objectives and activities are:
1. To develop a set of robotic measurements for the myopathic child
2. To test such robotic scales on impaired children at the joint lab IIT-GASLINI, in the Gaslini Hospital.
3. To Analyze the data in order to validate the proposed robotic scales.

Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
Students will learn:
1. Theoretical basis of robotic rehabilitation
2. Designing experiments and protocols on the robotic devices of the lab
3. Working and testing with human subjects
4. Data analysis and statistical testing

Pre-requisite abilities/skills: Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink is preferable
