Description

Motivation and application domain
To investigate the motor cortico-basal ganglia circuit during gait initiation and walking in subjects with Parkinson’s disease.

General objectives and main activities
General objectives and main activities of this master thesis project:

1. To implement and test several methods to acquire artefact-free hdEEG data of healthy subjects while performing gait initiation and walking tasks in a gait laboratory setting;

2. To measure possible correlates between cortical and subthalamic nuclei activity during gait initiation and walking in subjects with Parkinson’s disease.

Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
The things that you will learn are:
1. Theoretical basis of electrophysiological recordings
2. To design experiments and protocols with hdEEG and multi modality settings
3. Working with Parkinson’s disease patients
4. Data analysis and statistical testing

Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: Universitätsklinikum Würzburg, Germany (Prof. Ioannis U. Isaias)
